How a global BPO transformed ESG reporting through a centralized data platform

The Opportunity
As ESG expectations increased globally, organizations faced growing pressure to improve transparency, standardization, and auditability of sustainability data.
At Hinduja Global Solutions, ESG reporting was in its early stages, with disclosures initially limited to select geographies and data managed through fragmented, Excel-based systems. ESG metrics lacked consistency, and there was limited visibility across regions and functions.
As the organization expanded its ESG ambitions, the need emerged to build a globally integrated ESG data infrastructure that could support standardized reporting, enable accurate emissions tracking, and align with evolving regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
Over time, the scope of ESG reporting expanded from a few regions to a global footprint across seven geographies, requiring a scalable and system-driven approach to data management.
The Approach
To enable this transition, a structured ESG data transformation was undertaken in collaboration with Updapt and CCX, focusing on building a centralized, standardized, and scalable ESG data ecosystem.
The transformation began with establishing a global ESG baseline, expanding coverage across all operating geographies and defining standardized metrics aligned with global reporting frameworks. A total of 47 ESG KPIs were identified and implemented to ensure consistency across business functions and regions.
A centralized ESG data platform was deployed to replace manual reporting processes, enabling structured data capture, improved visibility, and real-time monitoring. This transition reduced reliance on fragmented Excel-based systems and created a single source of truth for ESG data.
Simultaneously, ESG governance was strengthened by embedding ownership across functions and establishing leadership oversight, including the formation of a board-level ESG governance structure.
Cross-functional adoption was driven by onboarding 73 users across regions and departments, supported by structured training initiatives and clearly defined data workflows. ESG reporting was integrated into operational processes, ensuring consistency and accountability across the organization.
The transformation also included expanding Scope 3 emissions coverage to capture critical categories such as business travel, employee commuting, purchased goods and services, and capital goods, significantly enhancing the organization’s ability to measure and manage its environmental impact.
The Impact
The implementation of a centralized ESG data platform enabled a fundamental shift from fragmented reporting to a data-driven, scalable ESG system.
Operationally, the transition resulted in a 50% reduction in manual data handling effort, significantly improving efficiency and reducing dependency on manual consolidation processes.
From a data perspective, the organization achieved standardization across 47 ESG KPIs, improving consistency, accuracy, and traceability of ESG disclosures. The establishment of a centralized data repository enhanced visibility across geographies and enabled more reliable reporting aligned with global standards.
At an organizational level, ESG reporting was successfully scaled across seven global geographies, supported by improved governance, structured workflows, and enhanced stakeholder accountability. The ability to track Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions from a unified system strengthened reporting capabilities and improved readiness for disclosures aligned with GRI and BRSR frameworks.

At a leading global BPO, ESG was an emerging priority, but there was no formalized framework in place to define how sustainability would be embedded into the business.
In the initial phase:
